This was my first buck that had a decent rack, this was way back in 1987, a long time ago, but the second year I was able to hunt my Uncle Benny's property in the heart of Texas Hill Country in Fredericksburg. The story on this buck, my uncle had been watching him through the summer along with the hired hand they had on the place. The weekend me and Dad headed to Uncle Benny's for our yearly hunt, Uncle Benny was talking about where we were going to hunt the following morning. I was going hunt in the blind by the creek; Benny was going hunt the blind in the middle of the property and Dad would setup at the blind on the bluff. That morning Benny saw the Buck head towards a blind by the old dump and decided he would hunt the stand behind the house for the evening hunt; it had a Deer trail to the dump. My dad figured he would hunt in the dump blind, and I decided to hunt the blind in the middle of the property, same one Uncle Benny was in that morning. We were hoping one of us would see him. Well, right before sunset, this buck made an appearance about 120 yards in front of me, just appeared in the Mesquite patch, facing me, I put the crosshairs on the base of the neck, and I never saw him hit the ground when I squeezed the trigger. After dragging him back to the road, Dad came walking by and asked if I had seen anything, I just told him I shot this big old doe, he took a look and said D@#$ that is a big buck, the one we had been chasing. We loaded him up and headed back to the Ranch house, Uncle Benny took a look and said hmm, nice buck, so you got him, then he wanted to add something to the picture. This is one of my fondest memories hunting with my dad and Uncle Benny, we hunted his property for 20+ years, but this was the most fun and memorable one that I will never forget. Uncle Benny has gone on to be with the Lord, but I will never forget him, he was always a jokester and could make you laugh.
